Bones: Your Inner Animal

This program is available almost every fall for local schools. The students in the Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and the Professional Communication for Biologists classes join to present a series of hour-long free programs for K-8 students. The kids rotate through a number of themed tables showing amazing skeletons, skulls, bones, and fossils. The college students explain concepts of relatedness of animals and adaptations. Contact Dr Kavanagh for information if your school would like to participate!

Living Creatures Science Camp for Girls

Every summer at Friends Academy (Dartmouth, MA), Professor Kavanagh runs a week-long science camp for girls age 9-14. It’s a fun mix of nature study, lab study, and lots of art including scientific drawing, fish-printing, music and dancing!  “From molecules to microbes to mice and mammoths, this camp is a seriously fun study of all creatures great and small.”

Wild Math and Forest Physics – A Science Camp for Girls

A new camp in summer 2021!

Waves, rainbows, sparkles, musical harmonies, crackling fires… this camp will explore the beauty of nature through the lens of physics and math.  Each day will be a combination of outdoor exploration, hands-on experimentation, and discussions of key ideas. We’ll practice the impressive skills of creating and interpreting graphs, and there will lots of fun, messy art!
